Dyfed Powys Police Strategic Coordination Centre

A sod cutting ceremony has marked the building of an estimated £10.4 million project to create a state of the art Strategic Coordination Centre at Dyfed Powys Police HQ.
The building, partly funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, will incorporate facilities to ensure that the Dyfed Powys Police area is capable of providing an appropriate response to any civil emergency that may arise. Dyfed Powys Police will also utilise the facilities for a wide range of training activities, including the training and development of new police officers joining the force.
Following a tender process with contractors, WRW Construction Ltd was identified as the preferred contractor. The centre is due for completion in summer 2011, therefore the project is the subject of a fast track operation.
Chief Constable Ian Arundale said, “We have a tradition of well-organised and effective joint-agency planning and response to emergencies in Wales. These groups are constantly assessing their ability to deal with major incidents and further developing their response capability.
"The provision of a Strategic Coordination Centre at Police Headquarters in Carmarthen, partly funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, will ensure that we have the capability in mid and west Wales to command and manage any civil contingency emergency or disaster."
